A loving, slightly convicting, completely relatable guide to divine communication you’ve been accidentally muting
Let’s be honest with each other this Saturday morning.
God has been trying to tell you something.
Not in a thunderclap. Not in a burning bush — although honestly at this point He might be considering it. But in the quiet, persistent, increasingly obvious ways that He has been known to communicate with people who are technically listening but practically not.
And you have been — bless your heart — spectacularly ignoring it.
Don’t feel bad. You’re in excellent company. Abraham laughed. Moses argued. Jonah literally ran in the opposite direction and ended up in a whale. The track record of humans receiving divine direction gracefully is… not great.
But just in case you need a little help recognizing the signs —
Here are 10 ways God is probably trying to get your attention right now.
1. 😴 You’ve Heard the Same Message Three Times This Week From Three Different Sources
Sunday sermon. Random podcast on your commute. Your aunt’s Facebook post that you almost scrolled past.
All three said the exact same thing.
About the exact situation you’ve been pretending isn’t a situation.
Coincidence is God’s way of staying anonymous — and He is running out of patience with the anonymous approach with you specifically. When the sermon, the song, the stranger, AND the fortune cookie all say the same thing —
That’s not coincidence. That’s a conference call. Pick up.
2. 🚪 The Door Keeps Not Opening
You’ve knocked. You’ve knocked again. You’ve knocked politely, then urgently, then with both fists, then you went around back and tried the window.
It’s not opening.
And instead of asking why it’s not opening — you’ve been assuming the problem is your knocking technique.
Sometimes a closed door isn’t a challenge to your persistence.
Sometimes a closed door is directions.
The open door is usually down a hallway you haven’t looked at yet because you’ve been too busy staring at the closed one.
3. 📖 You Keep “Randomly” Opening Your Bible to the Same Passage
You weren’t even looking for it.
You just flipped it open — the way you do when you need something but aren’t sure what — and there it was. Again. The same verse. The same chapter. The same story about the person who did the thing you’re currently refusing to do.
Three times this month.
At some point “random” stops being the right word.
God invented the whole book. He can absolutely arrange for you to land on the page He needs you to read.
4. 😬 Every Time You Think About That Thing, You Feel That Feeling
You know the feeling.
Not anxiety exactly. Not excitement exactly. Something in between that lives right in the middle of your chest and shows up every single time you think about that thing — the decision, the conversation, the step, the call you haven’t made.
That feeling isn’t indigestion.
That feeling is a compass.
And it has been pointing in the same direction every single time you’ve checked it. You’ve just been hoping it would eventually point somewhere more convenient.
It won’t.
5. 🌀 The Thing You Keep Running From Keeps Finding You
You changed the subject. It came back up.
You got busy. It waited.
You convinced yourself you were over it. It showed up in a dream.
You moved on. It sent a representative.
Jonah thought he could outrun his calling by booking a cruise in the opposite direction. He ended up in a whale with nothing but three days of darkness and the growing realization that God’s GPS does not have a mute button.
You cannot outrun what you were built for.
It will find you. It always does. The only question is whether you cooperate now or after the whale situation.
6. ☮️ The Thing You’ve Been Avoiding Is the Only Thing That Gives You Peace When You Imagine Doing It
Here’s the funny thing about divine direction.
It usually points toward the thing that terrifies you AND the thing that somehow — underneath all the fear and the logic and the very reasonable list of reasons why it’s a bad idea — feels more like home than anything else you’ve considered.
You imagine doing it and something in you goes quiet in the best possible way.
Then you talk yourself out of it and the noise comes back.
Peace is a signpost. Pay attention to where it lives.
7. 🗣️ Someone Who Doesn’t Know Your Situation Said Exactly What You Needed to Hear
They had no idea.
They were just talking — sharing something from their own life, making casual conversation, saying the thing they felt led to say without knowing why.
And it landed in the middle of your chest like it was addressed to you specifically.
Because it was.
God has never been limited to speaking directly. He has an entire cast of characters — friends, strangers, children, that one person at the grocery store — who He deploys with remarkable precision when you need a word you weren’t expecting.
Don’t dismiss the messenger because the delivery was casual.
8. 😤 You’re Exhausted From Doing It Your Way
Not tired. Exhausted.
The kind of exhausted that comes from swimming upstream for so long that you’ve forgotten what it feels like to float. The kind that lives in your bones and shows up on Sunday morning and whispers something has to change.
Here’s the thing about exhaustion —
It is one of God’s most effective tools.
Not because He enjoys watching you struggle. But because sometimes the only thing stubborn enough humans respond to is the complete and total depletion of their own resources.
When your plan runs out of gas, you finally consider that there might be another way.
There is another way. There has always been another way.
9. 🙏 You Already Know What He’s Saying — You Just Don’t Want to Do It
Okay. Real talk.
For some of you — this entire article has been unnecessary.
You don’t need more signs. You don’t need another sermon or another verse or another feeling in your chest. You don’t need the door to stay closed one more time or the message to come from one more unexpected source.
You already know.
You’ve known for a while.
The issue was never clarity. The issue is that what God is asking requires something — a surrender, a step, a conversation, a change — that you have been hoping to negotiate your way out of.
Knowing and doing are two different things.
And He’s been patient. Remarkably, almost unreasonably patient.
But you already know what He’s saying.
10. 🔥 You’re Reading This Article Right Now
Out of everything you could have been doing this Saturday morning —
You clicked on this one.
Not the sports scores. Not the news. Not the recipe article or the celebrity gossip or the seventeen other things competing for your attention.
This one.
And somewhere between number three and number nine, something shifted in your chest just enough that you’re still reading instead of scrolling away.
That’s not an accident.
That’s the same God who parted seas and toppled walls and fed thousands with almost nothing — using a Saturday morning article to say the thing He’s been trying to say to you specifically.
He is not subtle when subtle stops working.
And He is not done with you.
Not even close.
🙏 So What Do You Do Now?
You already know the answer to that too.
But here it is anyway —
Stop ignoring it.
Not because the fear isn’t real. Not because the step isn’t scary. Not because the conversation isn’t hard or the change isn’t costly.
But because the God who has been this persistent — this creative, this patient, this relentlessly present in the details of your ordinary Saturday — is not asking you to take that step alone.
He’s asking you to take it with Him.
And that changes everything.
The sign you’ve been looking for is the one you’re holding right now. 🔥🙏
Go do the thing. ☕🔥
