Daily Devotional: Drawn Close in Brokenness

Psalm 34:18 says, “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.”

This verse is a balm for the soul, especially in seasons where life feels heavy and hope seems distant. It’s a reminder that God doesn’t shy away from our pain; He steps into it. He doesn’t wait for us to pull ourselves together or pretend we’re fine. Instead, He meets us right where we are—in the middle of our brokenness, in the depths of our crushed spirit.

Think about that. The Creator of the universe, the One who holds the stars in place, chooses to be close to you when your heart feels shattered. He doesn’t rush past your pain or dismiss it as insignificant. He sees it, He feels it, and He moves toward you in it.

Brokenheartedness can feel isolating. It’s easy to believe that no one truly understands the weight you’re carrying or the depth of your sorrow. But this verse reminds us that God does. He doesn’t just sympathize—He saves. He lifts, He restores, and He brings healing in ways we could never imagine.

Today, if you’re feeling crushed by circumstances, overwhelmed by grief, or burdened by the weight of life, take comfort in this truth: You are not alone. God is near. He is close to you, closer than your next breath. And His presence is not passive—it’s active, saving, redeeming, and healing.

Let this promise be your anchor today: Whatever you’re facing, you don’t have to face it alone. The Lord is with you, and His closeness is your strength.

Prayer:
Father, thank You for being close to me when my heart feels broken and my spirit feels crushed. Thank You for seeing my pain and choosing to draw near instead of turning away. Help me to feel Your presence today, to lean into Your comfort, and to trust in Your saving power. I surrender my hurt to You and ask for Your healing touch. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Take this truth into your day: God’s closeness is not dependent on your strength—it’s rooted in His love.
