“Be still, and know that I am God.”
đź“– Psalm 46:10
Stillness feels impossible sometimes, doesn’t it? The day starts, and the noise begins—emails, deadlines, conversations, decisions. The pressure to move, to fix, to figure it all out, can be overwhelming.
But Psalm 46:10 doesn’t ask us to solve anything. It doesn’t ask us to hustle harder or push through. It simply asks us to stop. To be still. To remember who God is.
What Stillness Looks Like
Stillness isn’t about shutting out the world or pretending the chaos doesn’t exist. It’s about pausing long enough to let God remind you that He is bigger than the chaos.
It’s the quiet that comes from knowing you’re not the one holding everything together. You’re not the one making the earth spin or the sun rise. That’s His job, and He’s never failed at it.
Stillness is a choice—a deliberate step back from the noise to let your soul breathe and your heart recalibrate.
Knowing Who God Is
The second part of Psalm 46:10 is just as important as the first. “Be still” is the invitation, but “know that I am God” is the anchor.
When we stop, we don’t stop into emptiness. We stop into the presence of the One who holds all things. The One who calms storms, moves mountains, and carries us through every season.
Stillness isn’t just about quiet. It’s about confidence—confidence in who God is and what He can do.
A Prayer for Today
Lord, teach me to be still.
In the middle of the noise, the pressure, and the endless demands, remind me that You are God. Help me to rest in Your strength, to trust in Your timing, and to find peace in Your presence.
Quiet my spirit, even when the world around me is loud. Let me hear Your voice above everything else and know that You are with me in every moment.
Thank You for being the God who never changes, even when life feels uncertain.
Amen.
Reflection
What would it look like for you to be still today? Maybe it’s stepping away from your desk for five minutes to pray. Maybe it’s closing your eyes for a moment before responding to that difficult email. Maybe it’s simply breathing deeply and remembering that God is in control.
Whatever your Tuesday holds, take a moment to pause. Be still. Let God remind you of who He is and who you are in Him.
The world will keep spinning. The tasks will still be there. But in the stillness, you’ll find something the noise can never offer—peace.
