“Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”
— Galatians 6:9
I don’t know about you, but sometimes doing good can feel exhausting. You’re trying to love people well, be patient with your kids (or your coworkers), serve at church, and maybe even squeeze in some time to check on that neighbor who always seems to need something. And yet, some days it feels like all your effort is just… unnoticed. Or worse, unappreciated.
You’ve been pouring out kindness, and all you’re getting back is crickets. Or complaints. Or more demands.
Ever felt that way? Like you’re doing your best, but it’s just not making a difference?
Paul gets it. That’s why he wrote this verse to the Galatians. He knew how easy it would be to feel like throwing in the towel. He knew how tempting it would be to stop planting seeds when you can’t see anything growing.
But here’s the thing about farming (and, apparently, faith): the harvest doesn’t come right away.
The seeds you’re planting today—the kindness, the love, the grace you’re extending to others—might not sprout tomorrow. They might not even sprout next week. But Paul says that at the proper time, we will reap a harvest if we don’t give up.
I love that phrase: “the proper time.” It reminds me that God’s timing is not my timing. He sees the bigger picture. He knows when the soil is ready, when the rain will come, and when the harvest will be at its fullest. Our job isn’t to control the timing. Our job is to keep planting, watering, and trusting.
So, if you’re feeling weary today—if you’re wondering if all this “doing good” is worth it—let me encourage you: Don’t quit. Keep planting those seeds. Keep showing up. Keep loving, serving, and doing what God has called you to do.
Because the harvest is coming.
And when it does, it will be worth every single moment you spent on your knees, every tear you cried, every act of faithfulness that felt like it was in vain. God sees it all. And He promises that not one seed will go to waste.
So today, take a deep breath. Ask Him for strength. And then take the next step, however small it may feel. You’re closer to the harvest than you think.
A Prayer for Today:
Lord, I’m tired. Some days it feels like I’m planting seeds and nothing is growing. Help me to trust Your timing. Give me the strength to keep going, to keep doing good, even when I don’t see the results. Thank You for the promise that You see my efforts and that, in Your time, the harvest will come. Amen.
