Daily Devotional: Audacity – Knocking on the Door

There’s something beautifully simple about Jesus’ words in Matthew 7:7-8: “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.”

It’s one of those verses that feels like a promise wrapped in hope, isn’t it? Jesus is telling us that God is not far off or indifferent. He’s near. He’s listening. He’s waiting for us to come to Him with our needs, our questions, our longings, and even our doubts.

But if you’re anything like me, you’ve probably had moments where this verse felt more like a puzzle than a promise. You’ve asked, but the answer didn’t come. You’ve sought, but you felt like you were wandering in circles. You’ve knocked, but the door stayed shut.

So what do we do when God feels silent?

Here’s the thing: Jesus didn’t say, “Ask once and you’ll get it immediately.” He didn’t say, “Seek for five minutes and you’ll find what you’re looking for.” He didn’t promise the door would swing open the moment you knock. Sometimes the asking, seeking, and knocking are meant to stretch us—meant to deepen our faith, refine our character, and teach us persistence.

God isn’t a vending machine where we punch in the code for what we want and it drops neatly into our lap. He’s a Father who knows what we need better than we do. Sometimes His answer is “yes.” Sometimes it’s “not yet.” And sometimes it’s “I have something better for you.”

But here’s the promise we can hold onto: “For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.” It may not look the way we expect, but God always answers. He always shows up. And the door He opens is always the one that leads to something good—even if we don’t understand it at first.

So today, don’t stop asking. Don’t stop seeking. Don’t stop knocking. Be bold in your prayers. Be persistent in your pursuit of Him. And trust that He’s already working on your behalf, opening doors you can’t yet see.

What door are you knocking on today? What are you seeking? Whatever it is, know that God hears you, loves you, and is faithful to respond in His perfect timing. Keep knocking—He’s waiting on the other side.
