Psalm 145:18

“The Lord is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth.”

There’s something profoundly comforting about the simplicity of this verse. It doesn’t overcomplicate things. It doesn’t introduce hoops to jump through or qualifications to meet. It simply says this: The Lord is near.

Not distant. Not distracted. Not hard to reach. Near.

And who is He near to? All who call on Him. Not just the people who have it all figured out. Not just the ones who pray with polished words or flawless faith. All who call.

But there’s a key phrase tucked into the second half of this verse: to all who call on Him in truth.

What does that mean? It means coming to God as you are, with honesty and vulnerability. It means no pretense, no performance, no trying to impress Him with your spiritual resume. It means calling out to Him with the raw, unfiltered truth of your heart—the doubts, the fears, the hopes, the hurts.

Sometimes we think we need to clean ourselves up before we come to God. We think we need to be stronger, braver, or more faithful before we can approach Him. But that’s not what this verse says. It says He is near to those who call on Him in truth—right where they are, as they are.

So, if you’re feeling overwhelmed today, call on Him. If you’re hurting, call on Him. If you’re unsure what to do next, call on Him. If you’re carrying something small that feels insignificant or something huge that feels unbearable, call on Him.

And here’s the promise: He will be near.

Not because you’ve earned it. Not because you’ve prayed perfectly. But because that’s who He is—a God who draws close to His people, who listens, who cares, and who is never too far away to hear your voice.

Prayer:
Lord, thank You for being near to those who call on You. Help me to come to You honestly, without pretense or fear, knowing that You are always ready to listen. Remind me today that You are close, even in the moments when I feel far away. Teach me to trust in Your presence and Your promise. Amen.

Today, hold onto Psalm 145:18.

God is near. Right now. Wherever you are. Whatever you’re carrying. All you have to do is call.
