Let’s set the scene. It’s Thursday night. The upper room is quiet, but it’s not peaceful. There’s tension in the air—the kind you can feel when something big is about to happen, but you don’t quite know what.

Jesus picks up the bread. He breaks it. And He says words that, at the time, must have sounded strange: “This is my body, broken for you. Do this in remembrance of me.”

The disciples are sitting there, probably confused. Bread? His body? Broken? They don’t know yet what’s about to happen. They don’t know about the cross waiting just hours away. They don’t know that the words He’s speaking will echo through history, all the way to us.

But here’s the thing: we do.

We know what He meant. We know what He did. We know that the bread wasn’t just bread—it was a picture of the sacrifice He was about to make.


Broken for You

Think about that for a second. His body wasn’t broken for the perfect, the polished, or the people who had it all together. It wasn’t broken for the ones who always got it right.

It was broken for the twelve men sitting around that table.

For Peter, who would deny Him before sunrise. For Judas, who would betray Him for a handful of silver. For Thomas, who would doubt Him even after the resurrection.

It was broken for the ones who scattered, the ones who ran, the ones who didn’t understand.

And it was broken for you.

For every time you’ve fallen short. For every time you’ve doubted. For every time you’ve promised to do better but…
