“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.”
— Proverbs 3:5
🕯️ Reflection
We love the idea of trust — until we actually have to do it.
It’s easy to trust God when the path is clear, when the answers make sense, when the plan aligns with what we hoped for.
But what about when nothing makes sense?
When the door you were sure God was opening suddenly slams shut?
When the diagnosis comes back and it’s not what you prayed for?
When you’ve done everything you know to do and still feel stuck in the same place?
That’s when lean not on your own understanding starts to feel less like a comforting promise and more like an impossible ask.
But here’s the thing: God didn’t give us Proverbs 3:5 to frustrate us. He gave it to free us.
🌱 What It Really Means to Trust
Trusting God doesn’t mean pretending to have it all together.
It doesn’t mean ignoring your questions, your doubts, or your fears.
It means choosing to believe — even when it’s hard, even when it hurts, even when you can’t see the whole picture — that God is good.
It means believing that His plans are better than yours, even when they don’t look like yours.
It means letting go of the need to have everything figured out and leaning into the One who already does.
🌫️ Why We Struggle to Trust
Let’s be honest: leaning on our own understanding feels safer.
We like to be in control. We like to have a plan. We like to know what’s coming next.
But our understanding is limited. It’s shaped by our fears, our past experiences, our blind spots, and our need for certainty.
God’s understanding, on the other hand, is infinite.
He sees the whole picture. He knows the end from the beginning. He’s not just working for your good in this moment — He’s working for your good in the long run, in ways you can’t even imagine yet.
So when He asks you to trust Him, it’s not because He’s trying to withhold something from you. It’s because He knows what’s on the other side of your surrender.
🔑 A Trust That Transforms
Here’s the beautiful thing about trusting God: it doesn’t just change your circumstances. It changes you.
When you trust Him, you’re no longer a prisoner to your own limited perspective. You can let go of the need to control, to strive, to figure it all out.
You can rest.
You can walk forward in faith, knowing that even if you don’t understand the path, you’re walking with the One who does.
🙏 A Prayer for Trust
Lord,
I want to trust You with all my heart. I want to lean on You instead of my own understanding.
But sometimes, that’s hard.
Sometimes, my understanding feels like all I have. Sometimes, letting go feels like losing control. Sometimes, trusting You feels like stepping into the unknown without a map.
So today, I’m asking for Your help.
Help me to trust You with the things I don’t understand. Help me to lean on You when my own understanding falls short. Help me to believe that You are good, even when my circumstances are not.
I don’t need to know the whole plan. I just need to know You’re with me in it.
Thank You for being a God I can trust — a God who sees what I can’t, who knows what I don’t, and who works all things together for good.
I choose to trust You today.
Amen.
📍 The Bottom Line
Trusting God doesn’t mean you’ll always understand what He’s doing.
It means believing that He does.
The next step may not be clear. The plan may not make sense. The waiting may feel endless.
But God is not confused. He’s not absent. He’s not unsure.
He’s working. He’s leading. He’s holding you.
So lean in. Trust Him. And take the next step — even if you can’t see where it’s leading yet.
