Daily Devotional: Romans 8:28
“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.”
Let’s talk about the phrase “all things.”
Not some things. Not most things. Not just the things that feel manageable or the things that make sense in the moment. Romans 8:28 says all things.
That’s easy to nod along with when life is good—when prayers are answered, doors are opening, and the path ahead feels clear. But what about the moments that don’t feel good at all? The heartbreak, the disappointment, the seasons where it feels like everything is falling apart?
Here’s the truth tucked into this verse: God doesn’t waste anything.
The good things—the blessings, the victories, the moments where you can see His hand so clearly—those are part of His plan. But so are the hard things—the struggles, the waiting, the questions that don’t seem to have answers yet.
God works all things together for good. Not “good” in the sense of comfort or convenience, but “good” in the sense of purpose. The kind of good that shapes you, grows you, and draws you closer to Him.
This verse doesn’t promise that every situation will feel good. It promises that every situation will be used for good.
Think about Joseph in the Old Testament. Sold into slavery by his brothers. Thrown into prison for a crime he didn’t commit. Forgotten and abandoned for years. If you paused the story at any of those moments, it would be hard to see the good.
But God wasn’t finished yet.
Joseph’s suffering wasn’t wasted. It was preparing him for a purpose he couldn’t see yet—a purpose that would save countless lives and restore his family.
The same is true for you.
Whatever you’re facing today—whether it feels like a blessing or a burden—God is working. You may not see it yet. You may not understand it yet. But you can trust that He is weaving every thread of your story into something beautiful, something purposeful, something good.
Prayer:
Lord, thank You for Your promise to work all things together for good. Help me to trust You in the moments that don’t make sense, knowing that You are always working for my good and Your glory. Give me the faith to believe that You can use every part of my story—even the hard parts—for Your purpose. Amen.
Today, hold onto Romans 8:28.
God is working in all things. Even the things that feel broken. Even the things that feel impossible. Even the things you don’t understand yet.
He’s not done with your story. He’s not done with you.
Keep trusting Him. He’s working. Always.
