In 1 Corinthians 7:12–13, Paul declares that believers should not divorce their unbelieving spouses if the unbelievers consent to maintaining the marriages. Up to this point, Paul is apparently trying to uphold Jesus’ absolute prohibition of divorce onto mixed marriages.
