Right Now Is Not Wasted Time
“There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens.”
— Ecclesiastes 3:1
Let’s be honest: you’ve been waiting for the next season. The better one. The one where everything magically clicks—the money is steady, the relationship makes sense, the kids are older, you’re less tired, and you finally feel ready.
But while you’ve been waiting for what’s next, this season has been quietly sitting here, waving its hand like, “Hey, I’m right here. I matter too.”
Spoiler alert: God doesn’t waste seasons. Not even this one. Especially not this one.
So before you write this chapter off as a placeholder, let’s take a closer look. Here are seven things that are only possible right now.
1. The Faith That Only Grows in Uncertainty
When life is stable, faith gets comfortable. When life feels like a question mark, faith gets strong.
The trust you’re building right now—in the middle of the unanswered prayers, unresolved situations, and general chaos—cannot be built any other way. You don’t get this kind of faith from a season of ease. You get it from exactly the season you’re in.
2. The Relationships That Only Form in the Struggle
Here’s the thing: the people who show up when life is hard are not the same people who show up when life is easy.
And you’ll never know who they are until things get messy.
This season is introducing you to your real people—the ones who will still be around in ten years, the ones you’ll call when it actually matters. Pay attention to who’s in the room right now. God isn’t being careless about who He’s placed around you in this particular season.
3. The Clarity That Only Comes From the Wilderness
The wilderness isn’t punishment. Ask Moses. Ask David. Ask Paul.
The wilderness is where God gets you alone long enough to tell you who you really are and what you’re actually called to do—without the noise of everyone else’s opinions drowning it out.
If this season feels quiet, isolated, or like nothing is happening, listen closer. Something is happening. It’s just happening on the inside, where it counts most.
4. The Character That Cannot Be Shortcut
Everybody wants the harvest. Nobody signs up for the soil work.
But here’s the truth: the harvest is only as good as what happened underground before anyone could see anything.
The patience you’re practicing, the integrity you’re choosing when no one is watching, the faithfulness you’re showing in the small, invisible, thankless things—this isn’t filler content between the big moments of your life.
This is the foundation the big moments will be built on. You can’t buy it. You can’t borrow it. You can only grow it in a season like this one.
5. The Version of Your Children That Will Not Exist Tomorrow
Parents, this one’s for you.
The age your child is right now exists only right now. The way they laugh today. The questions they ask this year. The size of the hand that still reaches for yours without a second thought.
Next season, they’ll be different—beautifully, wonderfully different—but this version of them is only available today. And today is almost over.
Be here for it. Not just physically present, but actually here. The work will still be there tonight. The scroll will still be there tonight. This version of your child will not.
6. The Specific Assignment Only You Can Carry Right Now
God didn’t place you in this city, this job, this neighborhood, this family, this moment in history by accident.
There is someone in your orbit right now who needs what only you carry. Not the future polished version of you. Not the “figured out” version of you.
You, right now—with the story you have, the struggle you’re walking through, and the perspective that only comes from being exactly where you are.
The assignment doesn’t wait for you to feel ready. It’s already in front of you.
7. The Intimacy With God That Comes From Needing Him
There’s a closeness with God that only comes from having nowhere else to go.
Not because God is withholding Himself from people who have options, but because when we have options, we use them.
When we have nothing left, we finally get still enough to hear Him.
This season of need, this season of not enough, this season of I cannot do this on my own—this isn’t a season God is absent from. It’s the season He’s most present in.
The intimacy you build here will be the foundation of every season that follows.
Before You Close This
You’re not behind. You’re not forgotten. You’re not in the wrong season.
You are in the one God assigned for this exact chapter of a story He’s still writing.
Stop waiting for the next season to start living in this one.
The thing you’re looking for might already be here. You just haven’t looked up long enough to see it.
“There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens.”
—Ecclesiastes 3:1
God is not confused about the time. Trust the season.
