Daily Devotional: Courage in the Spirit of God

“For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.” — 2 Timothy 1:7

Fear. It has a way of sneaking into our hearts and minds, whispering lies about our worth, our abilities, and our future. It paralyzes, distorts, and convinces us to shrink back from the life God has called us to live. But today, let this verse remind you of a powerful truth: fear is not from God.

When Paul wrote these words to Timothy, he was encouraging him to stand firm in his faith despite the challenges and opposition he faced. And that same encouragement is for you today. God has not given you a spirit of fear. Instead, He has equipped you with everything you need to face life’s challenges.

He has given you power. This is not your own strength but the strength of the Holy Spirit working within you. It’s the kind of power that moves mountains, breaks chains, and overcomes obstacles. It’s the power to step into the unknown, knowing that God is with you every step of the way.

He has given you love. Fear often tries to isolate us, to make us focus inward on our insecurities and doubts. But God’s love calls us outward — to love others, to serve, and to trust that His love is sufficient to cover all our fears. Perfect love casts out fear (1 John 4:18), and His love for you is perfect.

He has given you a sound mind. Fear thrives in chaos and confusion, but God gives clarity and peace. A sound mind allows you to discern truth from lies, to make wise decisions, and to rest in the assurance of His promises.

Today, if you feel fear creeping in, remind yourself that it doesn’t come from God. Instead, lean into the power, love, and sound mind that He has already given you. Speak His truth over your life. Take a deep breath and choose to walk forward, not in fear, but in faith.

Prayer:
Lord, thank You for reminding me that fear does not come from You. When I feel overwhelmed or uncertain, help me to remember the power, love, and sound mind You’ve already given me. Let Your perfect love cast out my fear, and give me the courage to walk boldly in the purpose You have for my life. Thank You for being my strength and my peace. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Today’s Reflection:
What fear is holding you back today? Surrender it to God and ask Him to fill you with His power, love, and peace. Take a step forward in faith, knowing that He has equipped you for whatever lies ahead.
