“But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.”
📖 Matthew 6:33
It’s easy to get caught up in the endless demands of life. The emails, the errands, the bills, the plans for tomorrow—it all piles up, and before you know it, your focus is scattered across a hundred different directions.
But in Matthew 6:33, Jesus gives us a simple yet profound instruction: seek first His kingdom. Not second. Not when we’ve checked off our to-do list. Not when life slows down. First.
What Does It Mean to Seek First?
Seeking God’s kingdom first means prioritizing Him above everything else. It’s about aligning our hearts with His will, trusting His provision, and living for His purposes.
It doesn’t mean neglecting the practical responsibilities of life. It means approaching them with a mindset rooted in faith. Instead of worrying about how it will all come together, we trust that God is already working on our behalf.
The Promise in the Pursuit
Jesus doesn’t just tell us to seek the kingdom first—He also makes a promise. When we do, all the other things we need will be given to us.
This doesn’t mean life will always be easy or that we’ll get everything we want. But it does mean that God sees our needs, cares for us, and provides in ways we might not even expect.
When we let go of the need to control everything, we make room for God to show us just how faithful He is.
A Prayer for Today
Lord, help me to seek You first. In the middle of the busyness and distractions, remind me that Your kingdom is my true priority.
Teach me to trust Your provision and to rest in the promise that You will meet my needs. Shift my focus from worry to worship, from striving to surrender, and from my plans to Your purposes.
Thank You for being a God who sees me, loves me, and provides for me. I give this week to You.
Amen.
Reflection
What would it look like for you to seek God first this week? Maybe it’s starting your day with prayer before checking your phone. Maybe it’s pausing to ask Him for guidance before making a big decision. Maybe it’s simply trusting Him with something you’ve been holding onto too tightly.
Whatever it is, remember this: when you seek Him first, He takes care of the rest.
So let’s begin this week with Matthew 6:33 as our guide. Let’s seek first His kingdom—and trust that everything else will fall into place.
