“For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
— Romans 8:38-39
Unshakable Love in a Shifting World
There are few things in life we can say we are truly convinced of.
We live in a world of uncertainty. Plans change. People disappoint. Circumstances shift. But Paul’s words in Romans 8:38-39 remind us of one unchanging truth: God’s love is unshakable.
Paul doesn’t hedge his bets here. He doesn’t use words like maybe or probably. He says, “I am convinced.” There is no hesitation, no wavering, no second-guessing.
What is he convinced of?
That nothing—absolutely nothing—can separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus.
Not death. Not life. Not spiritual forces. Not time itself. Not the highest highs or the lowest lows. Not even the entirety of creation.
This isn’t just a comforting thought—it’s a declaration of reality.
The Love That Holds Us Together
Think about what Paul is saying.
Death can’t sever God’s love.
Life, with all its messes and mistakes, can’t diminish it.
No spiritual force—angelic or demonic—has the power to break it.
Time, whether it’s the present struggles or future uncertainties, can’t erode it.
No physical distance, no emotional depth, no circumstance, no failure can undo it.
God’s love is not fragile. It doesn’t depend on your performance. It doesn’t flicker when you falter.
It is steadfast, eternal, and unbreakable.
The Invitation to Rest
This truth invites us into a different way of living.
Instead of striving to earn God’s love, we can rest in it.
Instead of fearing that our failures will push Him away, we can trust that His grace is sufficient for us.
Instead of trying to hold onto Him with trembling hands, we can know that He is holding us with hands that never let go.
This is the love that meets us in our darkest nights, our deepest valleys, and our most uncertain moments.
It is the love that shows up when our plans fall apart, when our faith feels weak, and when we wonder if we’re enough.
A Prayer for Today
God,
Thank You for loving me with a love that cannot be broken.
Thank You for reminding me that nothing—not my failures, not my fears, not even death itself—can separate me from You.
Help me to rest in Your love today. Help me to trust You when my plans fall apart, when my strength feels small, and when life feels overwhelming.
Thank You for sending Jesus to secure Your love for me forever.
Amen.
Today’s Reflection
Take a moment to reflect on this truth:
You are loved by a God who will never let you go.
What is one thing you’ve been afraid might separate you from God’s love? Is it a mistake you’ve made? A season of doubt? A fear that feels bigger than you?
Hold that fear up to the words of Romans 8:38-39.
Is it death? No.
Is it life? No.
Is it the present or the future? No.
It is just another thing that God’s love is bigger than.
You don’t have to keep striving. You don’t have to keep proving yourself.
You are already held.
And nothing can change that.
