Daily Devotional: Trusting the Plans

Scripture:
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
— Jeremiah 29:11

Reflection:
There’s something about Jeremiah 29:11 that feels like a warm blanket on a cold day. It’s the verse we cling to when life feels uncertain, when the road ahead looks foggy, or when we’re standing knee-deep in the chaos wondering, What is even happening right now?

But here’s the thing about this verse: it was originally spoken to a group of people who were living through their own version of chaos. The Israelites were in exile, far from home, with no clear timeline for when things would get better. And yet, in the middle of that mess, God spoke these words:

I know the plans I have for you.

Not you know the plans. Not you’ll figure out the plans eventually.

God knows the plans.

And that’s the part we don’t love, isn’t it? Because we like to know. We like details. We like timelines. We like certainty. But God doesn’t promise us clarity—He promises us hope. He doesn’t promise us control—He promises us a future.

What Does Trust Look Like?

Trusting God’s plans doesn’t mean we always understand them. It doesn’t mean we always like them. It doesn’t mean they always unfold the way we imagined.

Trust looks like saying, I don’t know how this ends, but I know Who holds it.

It looks like letting go of the need to see the whole picture and choosing to believe that God’s plans are better than ours—even when they don’t feel better in the moment.

Plans Bigger Than Ours

Here’s the truth we often forget: God’s plans aren’t small. They’re not just about fixing our immediate problems or making life more comfortable. They’re about shaping us, growing us, and positioning us for something bigger than we can see right now.

The Israelites didn’t stay in exile forever. God’s promise came to pass. But it didn’t happen overnight. And in the waiting, they were called to trust—not just in what God would do, but in who He is.

Challenge for Today:
What’s one area of your life where you’re struggling to trust God’s plans? Take a moment today to surrender it to Him. Write it down. Pray over it. And remind yourself that even when you don’t see the full picture, He does.

Prayer:
Lord, thank You for knowing the plans You have for me, even when I don’t. Help me to trust You in the moments when life feels uncertain. Teach me to rest in Your promises and to believe that Your plans for my life are good—even when I can’t see them clearly. Give me hope for the future and peace for today. Amen.

Thought for the Day:
God’s plans are bigger than yours, better than yours, and always right on time. Trust Him.
