Daily Devotional: Galatians 6:9

“Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”

There it is—the verse that feels like a deep breath for your soul. A reminder that the work you’re doing, the seeds you’re planting, the effort you’re pouring out—it’s not in vain.

But let’s be honest. Some days, “doing good” feels less like a holy calling and more like a treadmill you can’t get off. You’re tired. You’re wondering if the harvest is ever actually going to show up. You’re questioning whether the seeds you’re sowing are even in the right soil.

And yet, Paul’s words in Galatians 6:9 offer an invitation—to keep going, even when it feels like you’re running on fumes.

The Weariness Is Real

Paul doesn’t pretend that doing good is easy. He doesn’t say, “Oh, just keep doing good, it’ll be a breeze!” No, he acknowledges the weariness. He knows that staying faithful in the quiet seasons, in the unseen moments, can feel exhausting.

But here’s the promise: your labor isn’t wasted.

The harvest is coming.

The Proper Time

Ah, the “proper time.” If you’re anything like me, you wish Paul had been a little more specific here. Like, “You’ll reap the harvest on Thursday at 2 p.m. sharp—mark your calendar!”

But God’s timing doesn’t work like ours. The “proper time” isn’t about our schedule or our expectations. It’s about His perfect plan.

And while waiting for that “proper time” can feel frustrating, it’s also freeing. Because it means the harvest isn’t up to us—it’s up to Him.

Our job? Keep sowing. Keep watering. Keep showing up.

If We Do Not Give Up

This is the part that gets me. The harvest isn’t just about sowing the seeds; it’s about sticking around long enough to see them grow.

How many times have we given up right before the breakthrough? How many times have we walked away from the field, thinking nothing was happening, when the harvest was just around the corner?

Paul’s words here are a call to endurance. To faithfulness. To believing that the seeds you’re planting today will bear fruit tomorrow—even if today feels quiet.

A Prayer for Today

Lord, thank You for reminding me that my work matters, even when I can’t see the results yet. Help me not to grow weary in doing good. Strengthen me to keep showing up, to keep sowing, and to keep trusting Your timing.

I pray for endurance in the quiet seasons, for faith when the harvest feels far off, and for joy in knowing that You are always working, even when I can’t see it.

Thank You for the promise of a harvest. Help me to hold onto that promise and to never give up.

Amen.

So today, as you write the email, make the call, show up for the meeting, or simply choose kindness in a world that feels anything but kind, remember this: you’re sowing seeds.

And at the proper time—God’s time—you’ll reap a harvest.

Keep going. Keep sowing. Keep trusting.

The harvest is coming.
