“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.”
— Psalm 34:18
Life has a way of breaking us, doesn’t it? Disappointments pile up, dreams unravel, and sometimes the weight of it all feels unbearable. You may find yourself asking, “Where is God in this?”
Here’s the answer: He’s closer than you think.
Psalm 34:18 doesn’t promise that we won’t face heartbreak or seasons of crushing despair. It doesn’t sugarcoat the reality of pain. But it does promise something far greater—God’s nearness. In the moments when we feel most alone, when the tears won’t stop, and the questions seem endless, He is right there. Not watching from afar, not waiting for us to figure it out, but with us.
Brokenness isn’t a barrier to God’s presence—it’s a magnet for it. When we’re crushed in spirit, He draws near to comfort us, to heal us, and to remind us that we’re not forgotten. It might not feel like it at first, but His nearness is steady, unchanging, and full of grace.
Reflection:
What areas of your life feel broken today? How can you invite God into those spaces, trusting that He is near even when it’s hard to see Him?
Prayer:
Lord, I come to You with a broken heart and a weary spirit. Thank You for Your promise to be close to me in this place. Help me to feel Your presence and trust in Your love, even when my circumstances don’t make sense. Heal what is hurting and remind me that You are my refuge and strength. Amen.
Even in the darkest of nights, God’s light is near. Hold onto that truth today—you are not alone.
